Description
Background
Leopold was born in the City of Glencove, in the Kingdom of Tilth, to Devis and Jenelle. His father's family, the DeLeon's, were wealthy landlords, but were fifth-tier Aristocrats with no title or prospect's of nobility. Devis, like his father and father's father before him had married for love not upward mobility. Devis owned a lucrative series of horse and cattle farms, which were run by tenant farmers. Local nobles and other businessmen often sought out Devis to obtain credit.
Leopold DeLeon is one of two identical twins. He and his twin brother, Roderic, were always competing against one another. As youngsters, the competitions were physical, but as they grew, Leopold surpassed his twin in physical stature and eventually the competitions turned to pranks and practical jokes. The two brothers were the first of six children by Devis and Jenelle: Nell, Theomund, Melodie and the youngest, Sabrina.
Roderic was apprenticed to a local wizard at the age of 13, and Leopold — who was wiser than he was bright — was made an adept under a young cleric of the god Stanson. Roderic was always a little ahead of Leopold in terms of responsibility, and when a house fire struck and Devis and Jenelle died suddenly, Roderic quickly completed his studies so he could inherit and take care of the raising of their brother and sisters, all of whom had survived the first.
There was a brief but contentious battle for custody of Devis and Jenelle's money with a grasping uncle, Tulloch, but the Magistrate found that Roderic and Leopold were suitable guardians of their siblings and were allowed to inherited the estate. Roderic asked to be placed in charge of the trust and Leopold consented knowing his brother had a better mind for business than he. Roderic became the head of the DeLeon family, following in his father's footsteps, and raised his four siblings. Leopold was less inclined to settle down.
One of the last pranks was a bit cruel. Leopold pretended to be Roderic and dated a homely lady named Fiona. Then Leopold arranged for Fiona to meet the real Roderic, and watched from the shadows. The joke was on Leopold, since the two had met days earlier and figured out what Leopold was up to, they staged a scene and when Roderic 'killed' Fiona with a spell. Leopold was wracked with guilt and horror, until the 'dead' girl sat up and they all had a good laugh. A year later Roderic and Fiona were wed. Leopold was Roderic's second and after the wedding he took what little money was his and hit the road in search of adventure.
In the back of Leopold's mind he is always watching for his twin to step out and play another prank. As Leopold left town he had a wizard cast Arcane Lock on the door to Roderic and Fiona's bedroom.
Many years of adventures followed. Leopold joined a group of adventurers as they fought against the nefarious Duke of Muldive, and the Kingdom suffered through the loss of a monarch and a great civil war. Leopold and his adventuring group supported the Loyalists and were instrumental in putting down the rebellion lead by Prince Edrin.
When the forces of the Dread Lizard, the Daemon Sakathka, invaded the Kingdom, Leopold's adventuring companions journeyed to the Forbidden City. After many minor battles, aided by elves from Svarus, they entered the Daemon's temple and slew him, gaining a great reputation and earning them a name: "Daemon Slayers."
After the great rebellion and subsequent invasion were over, Leopold settled down and spent the gold he had found in dragon lairs and Yuan-Ti hoards building a temple to Stanson in an rural area along the road between Col Tilth and Glencove. There he oversaw the building of the temple, and its founding drew upon a small but loyal following dedicated to the god Stanson. The temple construction took two-and-a-half years, and when it was over, the construction camp and new worshipers had erected permanent structures, brought their families and settled. The rural area became a small village, named DeLeon, in honor of its founder.
After several years of peace, prosperity and a growing following, Leopold felt the itch to adventure again. An army had invaded the northeast of the Tilth and there were many ways the he felt he could be useful. Leaving much of the work of the temple in the hands of his followers, he set out again to do good, and bring aid where it was needed most. Many of his old adventuring fellows had retired or at least settled down into quiet, respectable lives as squires, knights, secluded wizards or guild leaders. Unable to rouse them to adventure he found a new band of adventurers based in the independent city of Rastgoth.
They have no collective name but each had made reputations through settling a pirate dispute, quelling a minor border fight, or settling a town run by bandits. To this group is added one Daemon Slayer.
