The Border States

The Tilth enjoys a "buffer zone" of relative sparse population. There is not a strong geographic rival to challenge its leadership in this hemisphere. This allows the kingdom to dominate the politics of the western continent.

Relations with its neighbors are friendly, and recent treaties signed by Halfred (see History) have strengthened relations with demi-human populations as well.

The North

Wolve's Run

An area of lose human settlements north and west of the Tilth. The folk here are hardy pioneers that enjoy space. The area gets it name from the large packs of Timberwovles (dire wolves) that inhabit the area.

Civilized settlements are mostly castoffs from urban centers, former peasants unhappy with the amount of taxation or repression of organized society. These civilized peoples coexist with Rudkeric barbarians, mainly the Cu-Rudkeric. The tradition of animal husbandry and horsemanship began with these peoples, and is an integral part of the society.

Timberlaine

Timberlaine is more heavily populated than Wolve's Run. It is directly to the north. There are many settlements, some of which move with the season. The main industry of the area is logging. Logs are shipped south along the Restin River, or more often, east along the Laine River to Ron Mahrl.

The King of Timberlaine has always maintained a fierce independence, but acknowledges that his small county's main source of revenue comes from selling timber in the Tilth.

The kingdom is ruled by the the Graegareth – a high council that elects a monarch to rule for life. The current king, Malcom IV, has ruled this small country for the past eleven years, and is in good health.

Timberlaine organizes itself by loyalty to strong noble families. It is a cross between the feudal system adopted south in the Tilth, and the clan system employed north of Timberlaine. Religion is similar to the deities worshipped in the Tilth. The system still contains practices of the Tan Elkin and the Mog tribes of the Rudkeric barabarinas that populated the area, so druids are more common here than south towards the Tilth.
